Entry #5. Mayhem.

 Ad link: Cat Allstate Mayhem

Before you get into reading this make sure you click the link to watch the commercial, that way you can get a better understanding of everything.

Where do I begin?! Right from the start this commercial was very amusing! Dur to this, I think that the author wanted the ad to be funny in order for the audience to experience laughter. As the commercial starts I notice that all throughout the ad the plot takes place inside a home, this indicates that the commercial is trying to promote an everyday, normal lifestyle of a pet owner. Also, during the entire commercial each scene consists of a man acting as a cat, as a matter of fact, the commercial is based on the thoughts, words, and actions of the "cat". This tells me that the author's intended audience is animal owners, or more specifically, cat owners. In the beginning of the ad the main characters, which are a couple, bring home a "cat" that turns out to be pretty reckless. In addition, in each scene of the commercial the man acting as a cat is destroying a part of the home or making a mess, this is probably something that the audience can relate to if they own a cat. After a few humorous scenes of the cat, in the middle of the commercial, as the roof falls down and starts leaking, the "cat" says, "And if you've got the wrong home insurance coverage you could be coughing up the cash for this. So get Allstate and be better protected from Mayhem, like meow." By viewing this ad and that specific part in the ad you can come to the conclusion that in American culture it is important and valuable to us to be well protected (with insurance) for every possible case. To continue, the commercial is based on a couples "cat" that keeps destroying their house, the commercial only takes place in the home which has only cool, neutral colors. Although the commercial has no music and just the narrator's or "cats" voice to support the tone, the commercial is still comical as the ad focuses on the man-cat while the couple is in the background reacting to the disasters. All in all, the commercial did a great job promoting their company or business in a hysterical way by the random scenes that make funny jokes and have funny acting. So yes, although this is meant to be a commercial that is trying to promote a company, it's definitely okay to laugh! I sure did!
